Patients Rights :

  1. To have access to health care providers of choice, that is sufficient to provide you with access to appropriate high quality health care.
  2. To receive treatment as per your medical condition.
  3. To receive emergency services whenever needed, without prior authorization, incase of severe pain, injury or sudden illness that convinces you that your health is in serious jeopardy.
  4. To know all your treatment options and to participate in decisions about your plan of care. Parents, guardians, family members, or other individuals that you designate can represent you if you are not in a position to make your own decisions.
  5. To demand from health care providers to maintain confidentiality of your health information. You also have the right to review and photocopy your own medical record by paying necessary charges wherever it is applicable after approval from the competent authority.
  6. To ask for a second opinion from a different doctor if you feel that the decision made about your treatment by your primary doctor does not suit your treatment needs. This should not be unreasonably used.
  7. To be informed about relief of pain which is an important part of care and to receive information about options to reduce, control or relieve pain and have pain management.
  8. Right to informed consent before anesthesia, blood and blood products transfusions and any invasive high risk procedures and treatment.
  9. To accept or refuse treatment including examinations, tests and diagnostic procedures. You must be given enough information to make an informed choice about whether to accept or refuse treatment. To refuse care and take a discharge against medical advice to the extent that it does not contravene any law.
  10. To avail considerate, respectful and non - discriminatory care from your doctors and to be treated equally, irrespective of race, sex, age or disability.
  11. To receive care, which maintains your dignity, privacy, safety and comfort during your stay in the hospital.
  12. To a fair, fast and objective review of any complaint you have against your treatment plan, doctors, hospital or any other health care personnel. This includes complaints about waiting times, operating hours, the conduct of health care personnel, and the adequacy of health care facilities.
  13. To be free from any other form of restraint or seclusion that is not medically necessary or used as means of coercion, discipline, convenience or retaliation by staff. A restraint or seclusion may only be used to improve your well being or protect you from harm, and when you or your family has been informed.
  14. To raise ethical issues concerning your care providers and / or the ethics committee, and to participate in the resolution of those issues.
  15. To have access to visitors as per the hospital policy, about which you have been informed (there are medical or institutional reasons to restrict such access).
  16. To be informed of any proposed research or experimental treatment that may be considered in your care, and to consent or refuse to participate in such studies.
  17. To compassionate and respectful care at the end of life.
  18. To choose to donate organs.
  19. To know what hospital rules & regulations apply and the facilities obtainable by you.
  20. To receive details of your bill and know the charges before being treated. To request and receive information regarding cost for any treatment and to receive an explanation of your bill upon request.
